Between September 7th – 18th we were rooting for Samuel Belayneh, our PhD student in Astrocent group 1 under the supervision of Prof. Marcin Kuzniak, as Samuel attended the respected Gran Sasso Hands-on 2025.
Gran Sasso Hands-on 2025 is a summer school offering PhD students the unique opportunity of being directly involved in the research project activities at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of INFN (LNGS), the world-leading laboratory for underground physics, astroparticle physics, and nuclear astrophysics. Students were involved in a 10-day experimental project, in groups of 1-3 students per activity, under the supervision of the LNGS, GSSI and UnivAq scientists, with the goal of designing and performing a scientific experiment. A series of introductory lectures held by renowned field experts will provide the needed background for the proposed activities. The hands-on program was focused on: general relativity, dark matter searches, neutrino physics, cosmic-ray physics, nuclear astrophysics, multi-messenger astrophysics, space-based detectors, and quantum technologies. The school is jointly organized by LNGS, the Physics and Chemistry Department of L’Aquila University (DSFC – Univaq) and the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) with the contribution of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Summer school for young researchers, organised by our partner in the Astrocent Plus project – GSSI, is an integral part of this EU-funded initiative (Teaming for Excellence). We are on track with its implementation and excited to see where this journey leads!
