The Particle Astrophysics Science and Technology Centre “AstroCeNT” aims to establish in Poland a new international centre of excellence in the field of particle astrophysics. Its defining profile will be to conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research and development activities in the exploration of the hidden Universe, notably those related to searches for dark matter and studies of gravitational waves. It will be oriented both towards science and related innovative technology with a strong potential for applications in industry and medicine, contributing this way to improving and broadening the high-tech sector of the Polish economy. A related benefit will be to help build in Poland cadres of highly qualified researchers at the level of international leaders.
Our main objectives are to make key contributions to an internationally-leading effort to detect and study ultra-faint signals from the invisible Universe. In particular, we will specialise in developing a whole range of applications of integrated electronic systems based on Silicon Photo Multipliers (SiPMs) on the one hand, and seismic sensors on the other.
In order to achieve its objectives, AstroCeNT engages in selected long-term international collaborations, jointly with our strategic partner Astroparticle and Cosmology Laboratory in Paris and several other world-class institutions and also local partners.
