Celebrating Dark Matter Day 2025

  • 4.11 / Tuesday / 6 p.m.
  • Żoliborski Dom Kultury / Stefana Czarnieckiego 51, 01-541 Warsaw, Poland
  • Free admission

We cordially invite you to a popular science lecture with an astrophysicist on the occasion of Dark Matter Day 2025. Our colleague,  Dr. Sebastian Trojanowski, a theoretical physicist specialising in astrophysics and particle cosmology, will talk about the search of dark matter.

‘He stopped the Sun and set the Earth in motion!’ Undoubtedly, the Copernican revolution was one of the most important stages in the development of science, but it was quite slow to break through into the public consciousness. This was partly due to resistance to accepting the broader implications of Copernicus’ discovery, related to the position of humans in the cosmos around us. Over the next few hundred years, we gained much deeper knowledge on this subject. The last few decades have been rich in new astronomical observations, further disrupting our image of the Universe, which only slightly reveals its secrets, but hides many more unknowns. At the meeting, we will talk about one of the greatest mysteries of modern science, which concerns the nature and search of dark matter.

The event will include:
– a popular science lecture by Dr. Sebastian Trojanowski, Astrocent, NCAC PAS
– Q&A with the audience

This activity is carried out under the Teaming for Excellence project, as part of our commitment to sharing scientific knowledge with broader audiences.

What is Dark Matter Day?

On and around October 31, 2017, the world celebrated the hunt for the unseen—something that scientists refer to as dark matter. Local events organized by institutions and individuals around the planet explored its mysteries, and highlighted the experiments that could bring us closer to solving them. Since then, Dark Matter Day has become an annual celebration with labs around the world taking part. Stay tuned for information about Dark Matter Day 2025.

The meeting will be held in Polish. The event is organised by Żoliborski Dom Kultury in cooperation with Astrocent, NCAC PAS. Please note that photographs will be taken during the event. By participating in the meeting, you consent to the recording and duplication of your personal image for the purposes of promotion and documentation of the event by Astrocent and Żoliborski Dom Kultury.
