Astrocent celebrating science at 29th Science Picnic

On 13 June 2026, we had the pleasure of taking part in the 29th Science Picnic — one of the most joyful and inspiring science‑communication events in Poland. This year’s theme, “Lifelike,” encouraged visitors to look at science as something that grows out of everyday curiosity: in the kitchen, in the garden, on a walk, or in a simple question that sparks wonder.

Our colleague, Dr. Azam Zabihi, joined the NCAC PAS team to celebrate science with thousands of visitors, sharing hands‑on activities, conversations, and the excitement of discovery. The Picnic reminded us that science often begins with small, playful questions – Why does bread rise? How do plants breathe? Why do our wounds heal? These everyday mysteries open the door to understanding the world around us and lead to breakthroughs across disciplines.

The theme also highlighted how biology and technology intertwine: from materials inspired by algae and fungi to bioplastics, kombucha leather, and biodegradable fabrics. It invited reflection on responsibility, ethics, and the boundaries of innovation – reminding us that every new technology carries the question: we can do it, but should we?
For Astrocent, being part of this celebration of curiosity and creativity was a true pleasure. The atmosphere was vibrant, full of families, students, educators, and science enthusiasts eager to explore and learn. We are grateful to the organisers – Polskie Radio and the Copernicus Science Centre – for creating such an inspiring space for public engagement.
We are happy that astrocent could contribute to this year’s Science Picnic and share in the joy of discovery. Science – like life – never stands still, and this event showed just how “lifelike” it truly is.
