On 19 January 2026, Astrocent had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Matthias De Moor, General Representative of Flanders, and Mr. Tijs Verstraete, Policy Officer, from the Delegation of Flanders in Poland and the Baltic States, Embassy of Belgium. The meeting took place in a very friendly and constructive atmosphere, encouraging open discussion and mutual exchange of perspectives.
During the visit, the delegates expressed strong interest in the scientific profile and ongoing activities of Astrocent, with particular attention to our involvement in the Einstein Telescope initiative – a major European research infrastructure project shaping the future of gravitational‑wave astronomy. The conversation also touched upon broader themes related to the development of Polish‑Belgian cooperation in science and innovation, as well as potential avenues for future joint undertakings. Several preliminary ideas were discussed, including opportunities for researcher exchange, collaborative technological projects, and initiatives aimed at strengthening scientific outreach.
The representatives of the Delegation of Flanders emphasized that their mission extends beyond political and economic cooperation, encompassing long‑term engagement in culture, education, and research. The Delegation of Flanders in Poland and the Baltic States plays a key role in fostering and deepening relations between Flanders and Poland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania.
The meeting at Astrocent provided an excellent opportunity to present our research agenda and explore possible forms of future cooperation. We look forward to fruitful collaboration and sincerely hope that this visit marks the beginning of a long‑term and inspiring partnership!
