While virtual collaboration has become a cornerstone of modern research, some tasks require hands-on efforts that can only be accomplished in person. Alessio Caminata from INFN Genova visited Astrocent for three days to collaborate with our team on the DarkSide-20k experiment — a major international initiative in the search for dark matter, one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in physics. The experiment will utilize a highly sensitive detector, to be built at the LNGS underground laboratory, filled with liquid argon to detect the extremely rare interactions between dark matter particles and argon nuclei.
The collaboration between Astrocent and INFN on this topic has been ongoing for several years. It was particularly active during the DarkWave project and continues to thrive today.
This visit follows our team member Maciej Kuzwa’s trip to Genoa a few months ago and highlights the importance of face-to-face cooperation in advancing scientific projects.
