The Liquid Argon PET: A Journey from the Dark Matter Search to Medical Physics

On the 7th of July 2023 at 3-6 p.m. CEST Dr Azam Zabihi (AstroCeNT / NCAC), Dr Michela Lai (INFN) and PhD student Alejandro Ramirez (University of Houston) will arrange online course titled “The Liquid Argon PET: A Journey from the Dark Matter Search to Medical Physics.” The masterclass will explore the fascinating world of liquid scintillators, specifically Liquid Argon, and its potential applications in PET scanning.
During the course, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the current use of solid scintillators in PET scanners and explore the possibilities that arise when utilizing liquid scintillators like Liquid Argon, as demonstrated in the DarkSide dark matter experiment. This masterclass aims to highlight how the intriguing field of dark matter research can intersect with and transform the daily work in hospitals through advancements in PET scanning technology.
All interested in attending this online course are encouraged to register.
The organizers look forward to your participation and the opportunity to explore the fascinating realm of Liquid Argon PET.
