About us

Astrocent is an autonomous administrative unit of the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK PAN) (Learn more), established in July 2018 under the International Research Agendas (MAB) program of the Foundation for Polish Science. Astrocent is an international Center of Excellence in particle astrophysics. Over the years, Astrocent has achieved significant international success and now plays a key role in major global experiments on dark matter, neutrinos, and gravitational waves. Its experimental and technological activities are supported by the development and application of advanced computational methods and world-class theoretical research in particle astrophysics, conducted by international teams.

Astrocent has secured a €15 million grant under the European Commission’s Teaming for Excellence program (Horizon Europe). Together with equal national co-funding, this grant will support the transformation of Astrocent into an independent, interdisciplinary institute, Astrocent Plus (AC+), in collaboration with partners from Poland, France, Canada, Germany, and Italy.

Astrocent is conveniently located in central Warsaw, within the Warsaw University of Technology campus. The center occupies spacious and modern laboratories and offices on the top floor of a state-of-the-art building (View the building), fostering collaboration with local engineers, physicists, and the broader scientific and academic community. The location also offers excellent connectivity to the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Physics, CAMK PAN’s main facilities, and other research institutes in Warsaw.

CAMK PAN complies with the obligations of Article 24(6) of the Whistleblower Protection Act (June 14, 2024, Dz. U. poz. 928). Details on reporting violations and communication channels are outlined in the internal reporting procedure available here.
