Dr. Azam Zabihi

Research

Fields of interest:

Monte Carlo Simulation, Computational Physics, Medical Physics, Ionizing Radiation,

Biography:

Azam Zabihi completed her Ph.D degree in physics from University of Bu Ali Sina, Hamedan, Iran, June 2019. Her PhD thesis concerned investigation of the effects of fast neutrons on the DNA organizational levels using Geant4 toolkit. She visited Dr Bernal’s research group from September 2016 till February 2017 as a research opportunity.

She participated in several research and development projects in Iran. She was a teacher of training workshop (Geant4 simulation tool introductory course) in department of energy engineering, at Sharif University, Tehran, Iran, March 2019 and she was a teacher aide for Geant4 toolkit in energy engineering and physics department at Amir Kabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran from February 2015 to October 2017.

She was an advisor of four MS.c students from and one PhD candidate from 2015 to 2019. And now she is an advisor of one MS.c student and five PhD.

She had taught fundamentals of physics and physics laboratory from 2013 to 2019 in Shahid Beheshti University, Shahed University and Azad University at Tehran and Bu Ali Sina University at Hamedan, Iran.

From September 2020, her main post is that of a Post-doctoral (adiunkt) at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Ultrapure SiPMs and Associated Readout Electronics Group at Astrocent. The group works on development of ultra-pure photo-detection devices based on Silicon Photomultipliers for WIMP direct detection search and neutrinoless double beta decay search as well as medical applications, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners.

She is working with 3Dpi collaborated with Princeton University (Dr Cristiano Galbiati, who explores new ideas on direct Dark Matter detection using argon and xenon as targets, and his PhD student) and the University of Houston (Dr Andrew Renshaw focuses on advanced detector development for direct detection searches for dark matter particles and experimental neutrino physics and his Ph.D. student) in the LAr-TOF-PET project. The project also aims to advance this further with the forthcoming engineering prototype starting from a small system test-stand project at Cagliari University.

She has co-authored 6 papers in refereed physics journals and 8 papers in conferences.
